NEW MUSIC DROP: BTS Shows Versatility in new "Love Yourself: Tear" Album

by Nefertiti Jenkins

From R&B to trap, ballads, jazz and Latin tango pop, fans hear a wide range of diverse sounds on the new "Love Yourself: Tear" album from kpop boy group BTS. The LP dropped on May 18, along with a visual for a track from it, "Fake Love," which racked up more than 10 million views just hours after it was uploaded on YouTube.

"Love Yourself: Tear" is the third full studio album for BTS, and follows last year's "Love Yourself: Her" EP, which according to Billboard Magazine, put the group at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.

BTS talked about the new album recently in an interview with Billboard. The leader of the group, RM (Kim Namjoon) says the album is about the complexities of love;
"If you're in love, when you're not true to yourself, then the love won't last… Because love is complex."
In the same interview, BTS also explained the jazzy track "134340," inspired by the dwarf planet Pluto. Rapper Suga says he wrote the lyrics as a metaphor, saying "it's about something being separated from something else. "

Many people have already heard the first track on the album, "Singularity."  Sung by V, the R&B seductive number about losing yourself, premiered on May 6, as a comeback trailer for "Love Yourself: Tear."

You can listen to the full album on Spotify (below) or purchase on iTunes.   Check out the new music video ("Fake Love") which is trending now on YouTube.

You can also watch them (RM, Suga, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, J-Hope, and V) perform on Sunday, May 20, at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. They will also appear on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on May 25. And then catch them live in concert later this year. Their world tour kicks off on August 25th in Seoul. Tickets are on sale now for a city near you.
