Bigger crowds for the 2024 Roots and Heritage Parade and Battle of the Bands in Lexington, Kentucky. The parade started earlier than usual, at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, but still hundreds of people lined the streets to see local organizations along with Bryan Station High school, Central High School, Simmons College of Kentucky and Kentucky State University march down the road.   The parade on Saturday began on Fourth Street and Elm Tree Lane, turned right onto ML King, right onto Fifth Street, right onto Race Street, right onto Third Street and ended on Elm Tree Lane The parade was followed by a wild and exciting Battle of the Bands and band performances. It was held outside the historic Lyric Theatre on East Third Street and Elm Tree Lane.  The festival started with an African American marketplace on Friday and wrapped with a gospel celebration on Sunday.  Check out the parade and bands below.

Showcasing Kentucky's African American culture and traditions, the 2023 Lexington, KY Roots & Heritage Festival kicked off Friday night, September 8, with live performances on the main stage on Elm Tree Lane.  It continued Saturday morning with the annual parade and band performances. It included Simmons College (an HBCU) and Central High School marching bands from Louisville.  The "Battle of the Bands" after the parade was moved from the corner of Fourth street and Elm Tree Lane to Third Street and Elm Tree Lane, near the historic Lyric Theatre. New this year, a fashion show outside the theater. The show included pieces from up-and-coming local designers. The festival wrapped on Sunday, September 10. Thousands of people attended the weekend event.

From delicious foods and marching bands, to an appearance from members of the University of Kentucky women's basketball team, the City of Lexington, KY saw the return of its annual Roots and Heritage Festival the weekend of September 9th-11th.  The festival was voted as one of the "Top Twenty Events in the Southeast" by the Southeast Tourism Society, according to organizers, and it's been going strong for more than 30 years. The event had been put on hold for two years because of the coronavirus pandemic. The festival this year, included nightly live music performances, its iconic Saturday parade and plenty of food and clothing vendors. The annual event celebrates Lexington's rich diversity, traditions, African-American culture and community spirit.  The festival also showcases the rich talent from Louisville's Central High School Marching band, which has been making a parade appearance for years. 19-year-old Indonesian rapper Rich Brian dropped the official music video for his track "Kids" on July 19-- showing the scenes, people and culture of his hometown of Jakarta, Indonesia. The single is a pre-release off his upcoming album - "The Sailor," which is due out on July 26. He dropped the track and visual "Yellow" off it, on June 26. In "Kids," Brian spits bars about his rise in Hip-Hop, and his impact on the next generation. I'm makin' songs that'll probably outlive us for generations. Early bird tickets have sold out for the next 88rising Head In The Clouds Festival . The event will return to Los Angeles on August 17th at LA State Historic Park. The two 88rising artists are showing off their culinary skills for a pool party, in a new First We Feast series - "Feast Mansion." In the series premiere on September 26, Brian and Joji get roasted by French chef Ludo Lefebvre, and learn how to grill rattlesnake and bulls testicles poolside with a Yakitori master. The lineup for Jay-Z's 'Made In America' 2018 music festival has been announced. Headlining are Nicki Minaj and Post Malone. Also hitting the stage are Meek Mill, Miguel, Janelle Monáe and hip-hop artist Jay Park (and numerous others). Entertainment company 88rising, has announced an all star line-up for its "Head In The Clouds Music & Arts Festival," happening this fall in California. The event will take place on September 22nd at Los Angeles State Historic Park. According to the 88rising website , it will feature Rich Brian, Joji, Keith Ape, Zion.T, Higher Brothers, Yung Bans, Yung Pinch, KOHH, LAFF TRAXX (Toro Y Moi & Nosaj Thing), NIKI, AUGUST 08, Diablo, Don Krez, and more. In the description under the announcement video, on the 88rising YouTube channel, it says pre-sale starts Tuesday (May 8), at 10 a.m. (PDT) on the Head In The Clouds ticket website here. Kpop girl group Red Velvet will be in the U.S. to spend time with fans later this spring. SubKulture Entertainment announced on March 21, that they were bringing the ladies to Chicago, for their first U.S. fan-meet. It will be held at the Rosemont Theatre on April 29. According to SubKulture, while the fan-meet will only be held in one city (because of their schedule), ReVeluvs (fans) in Los Angeles can catch Red Velvet at the Korea Times Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl on April 28.
