Fans were preparing to stream "Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé" on April 17 on Netflix, when in a surprise move hours after midnight, Beyoncé dropped a new 40-track live album, as a soundtrack to the new documentary. "Homecoming: The Live Album," features music from her 2018 headline performance at Coachella in California. The singer made history during her two-hour set, as the first African-American woman to headline the music festival. The performance included a marching-band tribute to HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities), as well as Black fraternities and sororities, which of course includes stepping. The Netflix documentary shows the live performances and rehearsals, and honors prominent leaders of Black culture. In addition to her full Coachella set, "Homecoming: The Live Album," includes a recording of daughter Blue Ivy singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and a cover of Frankie Beverly and Maze's 1981 hit "Be...

by Nefertiti Jenkins Many filmmakers have tried to recreate the Black College Experience for the big screen, but few have done it successfully (with the exception of Spike Lee's "School Daze" (1988) and the 2002 hit "Drumline"). So this part of being Black is not widely understood or known. The Black college experience is a huge part of African-American culture, which was on full display during singer Beyoncé's historic and epic performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA. Beyoncé is the first black woman to headline Coachella, and on Instagram, Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, confesses that she had doubts about what was planned for the Coachella crowd. Writing on Instagram, she says she told Beyoncé that she was afraid that the predominately white audience would be confused by the black culture and Black college culture, because it was something that they might not get. Beyoncé's respons...

Also there, as part of the Roc Nation label, was musician Jay Park, and the co-CEO of one of his labels (H1GHR MUSIC), Cha Cha Malone. Fans of the four got to share in the moment, with pictures that were uploaded on social media. Jay Park posted photos on Instagram of his meeting with Beyoncé and Jay-Z. While Beyoncé shared pictures that she took with her husband. We also saw many other great snapshots from the event, including one of Beyoncé with Mariah Carey, and another of a slim looking Mariah Carey with Jay Park in the background.             by Nefertiti Jenkins Fans who waited five months to see Beyoncé for The Formation World Tour in Nashville, waited at the edge of their seats a little longer on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Nissan Stadium. The show was originally scheduled to take place in May, toward the beginning of her tour, but she postponed the show until October. Tickets said it started at 7:30 p.m., but DJ Khaled who opened for Beyoncé , didn't come out until well after 8:00 p.m. Of course he hyped up the crowd, with a number of old school and new school hits, but he was small on the stage, working his music, next to a giant cube called The Monolith. The Monolith rotates, projects videos, and has secret pathways. It teased the audience with quick dramatic images of Beyoncé before she appeared on the stage almost an hour after Khaled, in "Formation" with her army of female dancers. When she hit the stage, Beyoncé was right on time, and she and her dancers s...
