CL drops New Music "In the Name of Love" with visuals for "Done" and "Rewind"


Just weeks after the announcement of her departure from YG Entertainment-- and rapper/singer CL is now back with new music. The artist dropped two songs with visuals on December 4th, as part of the rollout for her new album-- "In the Name of Love." There will be a total of six tracks on the project, with two new songs released a week over the course of three weeks.

The official announcement of her departure from YG went out on November 8. According to the company, CL debuted with YG, as part of Kpop girl group 2NE1 in 2009. But she has also been releasing solo tracks for years.

Many fans still play her single "The Baddest Female," which hit streaming sites with a music video and a dance practice video back in 2013. The music video currently sitting at more than 46 million views.  According to YG, she became the first Korean solo female artist to chart in the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2016 (with her single "Lifted").

Rapper Shotta Spence Shares his Mother's Story

Shotta Spence, the 21-year-old up and coming rapper from New Jersey, shared part of his mother's journey from Vietnam, on Instagram, on Monday, September 4, as he wished her a Happy Birthday, and thanked her for supporting him as an artist. In his post, Shotta Spence (Spence Lee) wrote that when his mother was a little girl in Vietnam,  "the communist North had taken everything from her family. Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto steps down as CEO and Drops New Single - “Let the Story Begin”

Just weeks after celebrating the ten year anniversary of the record label he founded, rapper Paloalto announced on August 30, that he was resigning from his position of CEO at Hi-Lite Records. The Korean hip-hop artist says he will be staying on at the company to focus on his music.  On the same day as the announcement that he was stepping down, Paloalto also dropped a new single titled “Let the Story Begin,” produced by Yosi. B.I links up with Soulja Boy and DeVita in new song - "BTBT"

South Korean rapper and singer B.I dropped his new collaboration "BTBT," with American rapper Soulja Boy on May 13. His song featuring AOMG singer DeVita, is a pre-release off his upcoming album project "LOVE OR LOVED [L.O.L]." The single is a mixture of dance vibes with afrobeat backgrounds. The song title refers to a Korean phrase that means staggering.  B.I is a former member of Kpop group iKON, and he's now releasing music as a solo artist under his 131 Label, affiliated with IOK Music. On May 13, the rapper released a futuristic music video with the rollout for "BTBT." He has also announced a performance video with choreography by AITTY TOO for the single. That visual is due out on May 17 (or May 18 KST). 

Hot New Music: Jack Harlow - "First Class," Paulo Londra - "Chance" and ChaMane - "26"

Hip-hop is dominating the charts from around the world. During the week ending April 9, some hot new music hit streaming sites, including new hits from Louisville, KY rapper Jack Harlow, Argentine artist Paulo Londra and South Korean rapper ChaMane. Jack Harlow's banger "First Class" rolled out on streaming sites on April 8, with an official visualizer (that's currently trending on YouTube) just days after a preview of the song on social media with the artist in the studio went viral. The rapper samples Fergie’s 2006 hit “Glamorous” in "First Class." According to Chart Data, the new song has already topped the global Spotify chart and has earned the biggest chart debut of the year. Drake and Jack Harlow shoot music video during The Kentucky Derby for song "Churchill Downs"

On the eve of the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby, Louisville native and rapper, 24-year-old Jack Harlow dropped his new album- "Come Home the Kids Miss You." The project hit streaming sites on May 6th, one day before the May 7th Derby at the Churchill Downs horse-racetrack in Louisville.  Harlow's album includes the Drake-assisted song "Churchill Downs," in which the two rappers share lyrics of introspection before Drake wraps up the more than five minute track with... "Kentucky derby races, my presence in the spot is so abrasive. Box at the Churchill Downs, that's motivation, yeah. And shorty like, "You know that boy Jack is goin' places."    The lyrics in Drake's verse were a prelude to what was to come. Mural of Rapper Dumbfoundead Vandalized

The iconic mural of rapper Dumbfoundead painted on the side of Catalina Liquor in Koreatown in Los Angeles, has been vandalized-- that's according to a social media post from the artist. A picture of the vandalism, shows letters spray painted across it. On July 16th, Dumbfoundead thanked painter Joseph Yun Lee and Catalina Liquor on Instagram for "wanting to keep the mural up as long as they did."  The mural was originally painted for the rapper's 2016 music video "Murals," a visual off his "We Might Die" album. Last year, he tweeted that he was getting a least one tagged photo a day from fans who had taken a picture in front of it. South Korean Hip-Hop Label Hi-Lite Records Disbands after 12 Years

Another loss for the hip-hop industry in South Korea. On April 20, Hi-Lite Records founder and former CEO Paloalto announced the disbandment of the label during his Instagram Live. Paloalto created the company in 2010. He stepped down as CEO in 2020 , but remained on as a recording artist. The label was most recently home to other artists such as Reddy, Huckleberry P, Swervy, Owell Mood, Soovi, jerd and Ash-B.  Hi-Lite Records posted a statement on its social media platforms following Paloalto's announcement saying in part...  "As many of you heard through Paloalto’s Instagram Live, we have decided to officially disband the Hi-Lite Records label. A number of different situations and circumstances led to this decision. Above all, know that this decision was made to ensure the best possible future for our artists and employees." SONG of The Week: EXO - "Ya Ya Ya" - with a sample from SWV- “You’re the One”

It's that 90s sample that makes the song. On November 27, Kpop group EXO released their sixth album titled "OBSESSION." On it, the track "Ya Ya Ya," which samples American R&B trio-- SWV, and their 1996 hit-- “You’re the One.” The new song from EXO, "Ya Ya Ya," was co-produced by Dem Jointz, who’s previously worked with Dr. Dre, Anderson .Paak and ScHoolboy Q, according to Genius.com. The vocals on the song include the current six active members of the group... Sehun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kai, Baekhyun, and Suho. KHip-Hop Tours/Concerts Happening Soon in 2022

Fans of South Korean hip-hop will soon have a chance to see their favorite artists on stage. More than two years after the coronavirus pandemic put live in-person performances on hold, now with declining cases globally, artists are once again preparing to go on tour.  That includes Khip-hop rapper, Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto, as well as AOMG artists YUGYEOM, Woo, Coogie, Sogumm, DeVita and DJ Wegun. In addition, Kpop mega stars BTS are also preparing for a mini- Las Vegas residency.  ( Part 2: Hip-hop and R&B Concerts/Tours Happening Soon in 2022 (summer, fall, winter) ) Rapper Paloalto kicks off the Khip-hop tour season. His U.S. tour begins March 10 in New York. He then hits the stage in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Seattle.  AOMG artists Woo, Coogie, Sogumm, DeVita and DJ Wegun begin their "Above Ordinary USA Tour" on March 18 at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.
