Born in San Francisco, South Korean entertainment agency S.M. Entertainment discovered her when she was 15-years-old, and Young then moved to South Korea.
After four years of training, she debuted as a member of Girls' Generation in 2007. In October 2016, she featured on Far East Movement's single, "Don't Speak." She left S.M. Entertainment last fall.
