On January 1st, 2018, CL (Lee Chae-rin) posted clips on Instagram, of an unreleased music video, sung in English. And in the post before the video, she wrote on Instagram, that this time last year, she promised she would put out new music in 2017 (last year). She said the video that she was posting, was shot over a year ago, and it may or may not ever officially come out, but she loved it, and was sad that it wasn't released. She even wrote that she might get in trouble for showing clips of the video on Instagram.
CL, the former lead rapper of the now disbanded kpop girl group, 2NE1, had been in the U.S. working on an English language album, when she released her last hit single in English, "Lifted," in 2016. It currently has more than 26 million views on YouTube.
The song CL uploaded to Instagram on New Year's Day, 2018, has a catchy "I need you all In" beat. The video includes female fencers dancing for some of the scenes, and it would have done really well, if YG Entertainment had officially released it.
"Dear GZBz, I remember this time last year, I promised myself I would put new music out in 2017. I know you've all been waiting, and I wanted to end the year with a gift to you guys. This video is something I shot over a year ago and it may or may not ever come out, but I always loved it and was sad that it never got a chance to make it to you guys. Showing this little bit that I am able to, may get me in trouble but it's worth the risk to give you something and keep my promise. I'm all in. HAPPY NEW YEAR, Love CL"
