Could J-HOPE's "Hope World" Be The Best Mixtape of 2018?

BTS rapper J-Hope has dropped his first mixtape, and a music video ("Daydream") to go with it.  The visual is currently trending in the top ten on YouTube. In less than twelve hours, it's gotten more than 9 million views. J-Hope is also currently trending on Twitter, and maybe it's because he's also a dancer... but the mixtape itself, with seven tracks (in Korean and some English) is worth dancing to.  


Dropped on March 1 (or March 2, KST), "Hope World" gives BTS fans a side we don't always get to see from J-Hope. Known for being sweet and goofy, his lyrics go deep with some old school hip-hop beats, and could be on its way to being one of the best mixtapes of 2018.  


This is the first solo album for J-Hope (fellow BTS rappers RM and Suga have each previously dropped mixtapes).  The tracks for "Hope World" take us up and down on a J-Hope vibe. Here's our take on the songs...

1. "Hope World" - J-Hope says "hello to my hope world." Towards the end of the song we hear sounds of a Roger Troutman Zapp funk beat.

2. "P.O.P" -  (Piece of Peace) Pt.1 We get melodies of steel drums under the vocals, as we hear how giving the singer is.

3. "Daydream" - With a colorful and creative mv with subtitles, which shows us how J-Hope imagines a different reality. The song has a tight beat (and you just can't sit still listening to this).

4. "Base Line" - Goes in hard, with traditional scratches.

5. "Hangsang" - Featuring Supreme Boi. Turn up and "Smash on the street."

6. "Airplane"- This song is relaxing with a mesmerizing melody, and takes flight into J-Hope's past memories.

7. "Blue Side" - (Outro) - Listen closely and you'll hear wind chimes (as J-Hope sings to hold something / someone) and makes his return "back to the Blue Side."

ONE (Jung Jae Won) Returns With Debut Album - "PRVT 01"

Following his announced departure from YG Entertainment in July-- South Korean rapper/actor ONE (Jung Jae Won) is now back with a debut album titled "PRVT 01" under his PRIVATE ONLY independent company. New Video Drop: Rich Brian raps to an ex-girlfriend about their "History" in his latest visual

88rising artist Brian Imanuel (a.k.a. Rich Brian) has just dropped the official music video for his track "History." In the visual released on October 10, he raps to an ex-girlfriend at a party about what could've been for them, as he tries to get her back. The Indonesian (born) rapper, co-directed his new music video with James Defina. The self-produced track originally hit streaming sites as part of the 88rising collective album "Head in the Clouds," back in July. Check out the video below. Rapper Dok2 talks about working with Jay Park and G-Dragon (from BIGBANG) in Ep. 31 of "Fun With Dumb"

Illionaire Records co-founder Dok2 is a pioneer in the South Korean hip-hop industry, but he rarely gives interviews. Lucky for fans, the rapper sat down on two separate occasions recently to talk about his life and the rise of hip-hop in South Korea. The first interview was for the March 7th face to face with rapper Snacky Chan for Chan's YouTube series - "Undergod."   The second was for American rapper Dumbfoundead's March 20th (ep. 31) podcast of "Fun With Dumb." During the podcast, Dok2 provided a mini-history lesson for anyone interested in South Korean hip-hop. Beginning with his early rise, the rapper says he's been making moves in the industry since 2002 when he was 12-years-old. New Music: Lil Boi - "David" with just the right Old School Feels

Mixing up the hip-hop beats with old school R&B, South Korean rapper Lil Boi returned for a two-track single release on December 7th, titled "David." Lil Boi, a member of the duo Geeks, is managed under Grandline Entertainment. His new release consist of the tracks, "Go" and "David," (featuring Kim E-Z), which the latter track begins with a piano melody on love, but then switches the beat for a bounce flow. According to the agency, "David" is a prologue to the rapper's upcoming first full-length album; "Meantime," but the track "Go" will not be on it. Many Show Me The Money fans may remember Lil Boi from season four in 2015, as a contestant with team AOMG, with Jay Park and Loco as producers/judges and Geegooin, Sik-K and David Kim as team members. New Music Drop: Anthony Danza - "The BBS Diaries" with an "At All Costs" MV

Delivering that West Coast rewind with 80s G-funk beats, Seattle rapper/producer Anthony Danza has dropped his latest project (out now on Spotify and Amazon music). The Black Umbrella/Proof Avenue artist released "The BBS Diaries" on May 26, with a visual for one of its tracks, "At All Costs," pre-released on YouTube on May 24. The video shot by Steve Arsenio and edited by photographer Harry Clean. The rapper/singer dropped his new song "OCEAN" featuring Nigerian singer BNXN, with an official music video on June 30.  The visual includes beautiful scenes on a beach with a beautiful model. Rapper Jessi and Jay Park "Drip" with Swag in New Music & MV

Rapper Jessi is back with another single under P NATION (the South Korean record label founded by Psy). This time around, Jessi has global star Jay Park on the track and visual. Jessi released their collaboration - "Drip" on November 1st, and straight out the gate, she comes out swinging with swag, and singing, that she's not "going anywhere." NEW MUSIC & MV: Faydee - "Trika Trika" feat. Antonia

A hot international collaboration from across the seas. Australian singer Faydee dropped his melodic hip-hop/trap-R&B single - "Trika Trika," featuring Antonia, with an official music video on October 24. According to their online profiles, Antonia is originally from Romania and Faydee is of Lebanese descent. On Instagram, he says the word trika is Arabic for "Leave her" or "Leave it alone." In the visual, the two are styling in all white. Check out the video above. NEW NAME FOR BTS MEMBER (formerly Rap Monster)

The leader of the super popular kpop group BTS, from South Korea, has officially changed his name. Kim Nam-joon previously known as Rap Monster, has changed his stage name to RM. The announcement was published on the BTS official fan cafe on November 13.  RM wrote on it, that although he's been called Rap Monster for the past five years, he felt the need to change it, because that title was   getting more and more distant from the music done for the past 5 years.                                                                    -RM (via allkpop)    Back on September 19, 2017, Rap Monster announced on his Beats1Noisey Interview that he would be changing his name to RM.
