Now Listening To: Filipino Hip-Hop and R&B - PARADISE RISING's EP "Semilucent 2"

Back for a second round of new sounds, 88rising's label PARADISE RISING has dropped a new EP featuring Filipino hip-hop and R&B artists. The 5-track "Semilucent 2" project hit streaming sites on October 4 with several visuals on YouTube. The mini-album includes music from Canadian duo MANILA GREY, as well as singers Steven Peregrina, Daze and Yuna (from Malaysia), rapper Curtismith, CA Christian Alexander and producer Manila Killa. The new music follows the first "Semilucent" EP, which rolled out in July 2020. Check out the new project below.

Bruno Mars shares Behind the Scenes clip from the Making of "24K Magic"

Bruno Mars has shared a never before seen clip of the making of "24K Magic," the title track and lead single from his third studio album (of the same name). On June 27, the singer uploaded video on Twitter and Instagram, and wrote that he found it in his cell phone.  The video shows producer Brody Brown and Mars trying to figure out the groove for "24k Magic" in 2015. According to Bruno Mars, they tried nearly 100 different patterns and pockets to finally land what we hear today (a Zapp & Roger inspired track). New Music & MV: FANXY CHILD - "Y" featuring Zico, Crush, Dean, Penomeco, Millic & Staytuned

Perhaps one of the best known hip-hop and R&B crews in South Korea, members of FANXY CHILD have teamed up once again to drop a new single and visual titled "Y." The track hit streaming sites on August 9th featuring ZICO, CRUSH, DEAN, PENOMECO and producers MILLIC and STAYTUNED. Previously we've seen them collaborate on such hits and music videos like Millic's "Paradise" and Zico's "Fanxy Child" and "Bermuda Triangle." FANXY CHILD will hold their first concert as a crew on August 10 and 11. Check out their new music below.

Rapper Dok2 talks about working with Jay Park and G-Dragon (from BIGBANG) in Ep. 31 of "Fun With Dumb"

Illionaire Records co-founder Dok2 is a pioneer in the South Korean hip-hop industry, but he rarely gives interviews. Lucky for fans, the rapper sat down on two separate occasions recently to talk about his life and the rise of hip-hop in South Korea. The first interview was for the March 7th face to face with rapper Snacky Chan for Chan's YouTube series - "Undergod."   The second was for American rapper Dumbfoundead's March 20th (ep. 31) podcast of "Fun With Dumb." During the podcast, Dok2 provided a mini-history lesson for anyone interested in South Korean hip-hop. Beginning with his early rise, the rapper says he's been making moves in the industry since 2002 when he was 12-years-old. He told Dumbfoundead that he used to attend a school for foreigners in Busan (because of his mixed Korean, Spanish and Filipino heritage), but after 6th grade he moved to Seoul and did not return back to school (due to family financial reasons). On the March 7th episode of ' Target: Billboard - Kill Bill,' legendary rapper Dok2 brought a number of notable Korean (and Korean-American) rappers out on stage with him to perform his latest song. The show ' Kill Bill'  is an MBC hip-hop survival program which aims to put a South Korean hip-hop artist on the Billboard charts with a collaboration with DJ Khaled. Artists who hit the stage with Dok2 during this episode were Snacky Chan, Changmo, Double K, Deepflow, Los, Young B, Pyunny, Keem Hyo-Eun, Junoflo and Nucksal. After the show, Dok2 and Snacky Chan went backstage to record an interview for Chan's YouTube series - "Undergod." During their one on one, Dok2 compares hip-hop styles of trap and boom bap. South Korean rapper The Quiett rides out in a Bentley in final 1LLIONAIRE RECORDS release - "BENTLEY 2"

With his laid-back 90s rap flow and braggadocious lyrics, rapper The Quiett is one of the smoothest artists in hip-hop. He is also the co-founder, with rapper Dok2, of one of the most influential record companies in South Korea. Both are part of a group of legends responsible for putting South Korean hip-hop on the map. Their label - 1LLIONAIRE RECORDS, was established in January 2011. They added rapper Beenzino later that year. In 2016, the two established a second label, of younger up-and-coming artists called Ambition Musik. The co-CEOs also toured the United States in 2016, and in 2017, putting on great high energy performances. INLet'sGo! caught their 2016 stop in Atlanta.  On November 11, 2020, The Quiett dropped his last double single under 1LLIONAIRE RECORDS, marking the last 1LLIONAIRE DAY (of new music drops), and the final project for the company. Dok2 parted ways with the label in February, and in July, the company announced it was shutting down....

Rapper Jessi is back with another single under P NATION (the South Korean record label founded by Psy). This time around, Jessi has global star Jay Park on the track and visual. Jessi released their collaboration - "Drip" on November 1st, and straight out the gate, she comes out swinging with swag, and singing, that she's not "going anywhere." Park joins her midway in-- getting his brag on-- with a smooth flow about his "legacy." Check out the new music and video below.

Now Listening To: Tyla's - "Water" - The single that's now at the Top of Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart

South African singer-songwriter Tyla is one of the hottest rising stars of 2023. She's currently taking over social media with her TikTok viral dance challenge from her latest single- “Water.” The song hit streaming sites in July. The official music video arrived on YouTube on October 6. It's currently (as of this writing) trending #26 on the site with nearly 13 million views.  According to Billboard, “Water” has also climbed to #1 on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart, dated Oct. 21-- stopping the record 58-week streak from Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down,” which had led the list since Sept. 10, 2022. “Water” marks Tyla's first top spot on any Billboard chart.  The 21-year-old Johannesburg native debuted with her first music video: "Getting Late," featuring Kooldrink in 2021. New Music and Video Drop: Jay Park - "FSU" ft. GASHI & Rich The Kid

On the second single release, from his upcoming Roc Nation debut album, "Ask ‘Bout Me," hip-hop artist Jay Park spits, "I do R&B, but they want me to rap." The track, "FSU," along with the visual for it, dropped on July 6, and features rappers GASHI and Rich The Kid. The single was produced by Groovy Room -- a duo producer team from H1GHR MUSIC (where Park is co-CEO. He's also co-CEO of South Korean label AOMG). The music video for "FSU," directed by Jinooya Makes, has Park in the middle of a desert in the beginning, declaring his place on the U.S. music scene.  The video is below and the album is set to drop on July 20. Jay Park Announces new H1GHR MUSIC Artist - Seo Donghyun a.k.a. Big Naughty

During the second and final day of his 2019  Off Route Fest in South Korea, co-CEO/entertainer Jay Park announced the newest member of his second label- H1GHR MUSIC, as rapper/singer Seo Donghyun a.k.a. Big Naughty. Park introduced the young artist on stage, on Oct. 6, in front of a crowd of thousands of people at the music festival, and later posted video of the moment to Instagram. According to Park, Donghyun is now the youngest member of the label (previously that title went to rapper Haon). Big Naughty was a contestant on season eight of the popular South Korean rap competition program - Show Me The Money (SMTM). He was eliminated in the semi-finals. Jay Park also currently has his own music audition competition show airing on MBN, in South Korea called SignHere . The show's goal is to find the next member of his first label - AOMG. New Music & MV: Hitting up Loco and GRAY for a "Late Night"

It's three in the morning at AOMG in South Korea, and hip hop producer artist GRAY and rapper Loco, are ready to hit up some people for a "Late Night." The two labelmates dropped the official music video for their new track, "Late Night," on November 28. It's fun and colorful, and includes cameos from fellow labelmates Woo Won Jae, CODE KUNST, ELO and DJ Wegun. The release comes after the recent announcement that Loco will join the military in February, as a conscripted policeman. According to the Korea Herald ... Loco will enlist in the military on Feb. 7, 2019, according to AOMG. The rapper will receive basic military training at the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, for five weeks, and continue his service at a local police station.
