Rapper Dok2 talks about working with Jay Park and G-Dragon (from BIGBANG) in Ep. 31 of "Fun With Dumb"

Illionaire Records co-founder Dok2 is a pioneer in the South Korean hip-hop industry, but he rarely gives interviews. Lucky for fans, the rapper sat down on two separate occasions recently to talk about his life and the rise of hip-hop in South Korea. The first interview was for the March 7th face to face with rapper Snacky Chan for Chan's YouTube series - "Undergod." The second was for American rapper Dumbfoundead's March 20th (ep. 31) podcast of "Fun With Dumb." During the podcast, Dok2 provided a mini-history lesson for anyone interested in South Korean hip-hop. Beginning with his early rise, the rapper says he's been making moves in the industry since 2002 when he was 12-years-old. He told Dumbfoundead that he used to attend a school for foreigners in Busan (because of his mixed Korean, Spanish and Filipino heritage), but after 6th grade he moved to Seoul and did not return back to school (due to family financial reasons). Showcasing Kentucky's African American culture and traditions, the 2023 Lexington, KY Roots & Heritage Festival kicked off Friday night, September 8, with live performances on the main stage on Elm Tree Lane. It continued Saturday morning with the annual parade and band performances. It included Simmons College (an HBCU) and Central High School marching bands from Louisville. The "Battle of the Bands" after the parade was moved from the corner of Fourth street and Elm Tree Lane to Third Street and Elm Tree Lane, near the historic Lyric Theatre. New this year, a fashion show outside the theater. The show included pieces from up-and-coming local designers. The festival wrapped on Sunday, September 10. Thousands of people attended the weekend event.

South Korean rapper The Quiett rides out in a Bentley in final 1LLIONAIRE RECORDS release - "BENTLEY 2"

With his laid-back 90s rap flow and braggadocious lyrics, rapper The Quiett is one of the smoothest artists in hip-hop. He is also the co-founder, with rapper Dok2, of one of the most influential record companies in South Korea. Both are part of a group of legends responsible for putting South Korean hip-hop on the map. Their label - 1LLIONAIRE RECORDS, was established in January 2011. They added rapper Beenzino later that year. In 2016, the two established a second label, of younger up-and-coming artists called Ambition Musik. The co-CEOs also toured the United States in 2016, and in 2017, putting on great high energy performances. INLet'sGo! caught their 2016 stop in Atlanta. On November 11, 2020, The Quiett dropped his last double single under 1LLIONAIRE RECORDS, marking the last 1LLIONAIRE DAY (of new music drops), and the final project for the company. Dok2 parted ways with the label in February, and in July, the company announced it was shutting down....

AOMG Welcomes Sogumm to the Label after her "Signhere" win on MBN

South Korean label AOMG (founded by Jay Park), now has two female artists. AOMG welcomed Sogumm to the team on October 31, after the final episode of Signhere on MBN. The singer took home first place, on the competition show. Her total scores for her performance beating out Meloh, Maddox and MBA. Sogumm joins Hoody, and a crew of popular male artists, as the second woman signed to AOMG. Hoody became the first female artist to sign to the hip-hop and R&B record label back in 2015. South African singer-songwriter Tyla is one of the hottest rising stars of 2023. She's currently taking over social media with her TikTok viral dance challenge from her latest single- “Water.” The song hit streaming sites in July. The official music video arrived on YouTube on October 6. It's currently (as of this writing) trending #26 on the site with nearly 13 million views. NEW NAME FOR BTS MEMBER (formerly Rap Monster)

The leader of the super popular kpop group BTS, from South Korea, has officially changed his name. Kim Nam-joon previously known as Rap Monster, has changed his stage name to RM. The announcement was published on the BTS official fan cafe on November 13. CEOs Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone Promote H1GHR MUSIC 'SXSW' Showcase (UPDATE - New Promo Video)

For fans who get to go, they are in for what's looking to be a really great hip-hop show. On March 5, CEOs of H1GHR MUSIC, Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone, posted a flyer on their social media accounts, of their label's showcase at SXSW (South by Southwest). The showcase is happening on March 17, at 8 p.m. at The Main on E. 6th St. in Austin, TX. The two music trailblazers will co-host the special event. South Korean mixed martial arts fighter Seo Jinsoo, has just thrown a knockout punch on the hip-hop scene with his debut single - "VOODOO" featuring Duplex G. The official music video for the track dropped on October 12. Instead of a fighting ring (or The Octagon), Seo Jinsoo hits the party scene on a slow tempo beat as he contemplates his lifestyle with alcohol over interactions with sexy women. Check it out above. DAVII Drops Eclectic New Album - "GENEZIS3"

South Korean musician DAVII dropped his fourth mini-album "GENEZIS3" on August 3rd. The project includes an eclectic infusion of jazz and hip-hop. The six-track EP hit streaming sites with an official music video for the song "Flying" showing DAVII on keys with smooth vocals. The track also features H1GHR MUSIC artist BIG Naughty.
