H1GHR MUSIC Goes For an Edgier Sound on "H1GHR : RED TAPE" Compilation Album


Going hard, on the brink of punk rock on at least one track, South Korean hip-hop label H1GHR MUSIC released its first compilation album, titled "H1GHR : RED TAPE" on September 2nd, with an official music video for its song "The Purge." The project includes Jay Park, Golden, Sik-K, pH-1, BIG Naughty, Woodie Gochild, HAON, TRADE L and others. It follows the previously dropped visual for the track "How We Rock." 

On the album, a remix of pH-1's song TELÉFONO, and the much anticipated track “Melanin Handsome” with Sik-K. According to the label, Sik-K, who has darker skin, wanted to say darker skin is beautiful, because "in Korea and Asia in general, a lighter skin complexion is perceived as more beautiful."

H1GHR MUSIC is expected to drop its "H1GHR : BLUE TAPE" on September 16. Check out the "RED TAPE" below.

Rapper Dok2 talks about working with Jay Park and G-Dragon (from BIGBANG) in Ep. 31 of "Fun With Dumb"

Illionaire Records co-founder Dok2 is a pioneer in the South Korean hip-hop industry, but he rarely gives interviews. Lucky for fans, the rapper sat down on two separate occasions recently to talk about his life and the rise of hip-hop in South Korea. Crush Drops New MV ("Be By My Side") With Earth, Wind & Fire Sample

Korean R&B singer Crush, has dropped his latest music video. It's called "Be By My Side," and it samples the soul, disco and funk band Earth, Wind & Fire. According to the description under the upload on the Amoeba Culture official YouTube Channel, Crush received permission to use the "Brazilian Rhyme" sample. Bruno Mars shares Behind the Scenes clip from the Making of "24K Magic"

Bruno Mars has shared a never before seen clip of the making of "24K Magic," the title track and lead single from his third studio album (of the same name). On June 27, the singer uploaded video on Twitter and Instagram, and wrote that he found it in his cell phone.  The video shows producer Brody Brown and Mars trying to figure out the groove for "24k Magic" in 2015. According to Bruno Mars, they tried nearly 100 different patterns and pockets to finally land what we hear today (a Zapp & Roger inspired track). Jay Park Announces new H1GHR MUSIC Artist - Seo Donghyun a.k.a. Big Naughty

During the second and final day of his 2019  Off Route Fest in South Korea, co-CEO/entertainer Jay Park announced the newest member of his second label- H1GHR MUSIC, as rapper/singer Seo Donghyun a.k.a. Big Naughty. Park introduced the young artist on stage, on Oct. 6, in front of a crowd of thousands of people at the music festival, and later posted video of the moment to Instagram. According to Park, Donghyun is now the youngest member of the label (previously that title went to rapper Haon). Big Naughty was a contestant on season eight of the popular South Korean rap competition program - Show Me The Money (SMTM). He was eliminated in the semi-finals. Jay Park also currently has his own music audition competition show airing on MBN, in South Korea called SignHere . The show's goal is to find the next member of his first label - AOMG. Drake Praises Dumbfoundead in "Bad Rap" (Now on Netflix)

Before artist and battle rapper Dumbfoundead released his hot "We Might Die" album, or dropped the popular music videos for the tracks 'SAFE' and 'Harambe,' and the catchy but freaky visual for 'Water,' Dumbfoundead was sitting down with producer and director Salima Koroma and co-producer Jaeki Cho for a documentary with three of his friends called "Bad Rap." It premiered last year at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, but was just recently uploaded on Netflix. The documentary walks us through the journey he and fellow Asian-American artists Awkwafina, Lyricks and Rekstizzy were on, to break into the larger American hip-hop scene, as they navigated through the waters of culture appropriation (from the African-American community) and originality. Dumbfoundead has been known for his battle rap skills for a long time. In the film we get to re-experience his epic comeback battle (after a break) against Conceited (from Wild 'n Out)...

Song of The Day: Kiana Ledé - "Take It All"

Showing her vocal range as an R&B artist, singer Kiana Ledé released "Take It All" on July 13, as one of seven songs on her new EP "Selfless." "Take It All" stands out on the mini album. The mostly acoustic track connects on an emotional level of maturity, which makes it today's Song of The Day. The 21-year-old artist has been active since she was a child, after winning a  Kidz Bop's Kidz Star USA talent competition in 2011. She's also an actress, and has played Zoe Vaughn on the MTV horror series Scream . Listen to her song "Take It All" below, along with other great tracks on her new EP "Selfless."

Chill Vibes from H1GHR MUSIC in Second Compilation Album - "H1GHR : BLUE TAPE"

The vibe is a bit more laid-back and groovy, on H1GHR MUSIC's second compilation album, "H1GHR : BLUE TAPE," which hit streaming sites on September 16. The first track, "Champagne Diet," sets it off with a smooth bounce featuring label CEO Jay Park, rapper 28AV, Gemini and pH-1. The entire project is easy listening, and more melodic than the popular first compilation drop, "H1GHR : RED TAPE," which rolled out on September 2, with a head banger of a song titled- "The Purge."  On "H1GHR : BLUE TAPE" one of the younger labelmates, rapper BIG Naughty gets a Woogie produced track to himself on "LIVE." Jay Park Adds and Interacts With Fans on Instagram Live Before Hawaii Concert

Social media is allowing fans and artists to interact with each other like never before. While in a room in Hawaii, on Sunday, April 1, singer/rapper/co-CEO Jay Park, discovered a feature during his Instagram Live stream, which allowed him to add and connect with fans, for 'one on one' time, but in front of thousands of people peering in. Jay Park was in Hawaii for a concert, with Hoody and pH-1 happening later that night.  At almost five minutes into his livestream, we hear the Roc Nation artist say, "I've never done this before."
