South Korean Hip-Hop Label Hi-Lite Records Disbands after 12 Years

Another loss for the hip-hop industry in South Korea. On April 20, Hi-Lite Records founder and former CEO Paloalto announced the disbandment of the label during his Instagram Live. Paloalto created the company in 2010. He stepped down as CEO in 2020 , but remained on as a recording artist. The label was most recently home to other artists such as Reddy, Huckleberry P, Swervy, Owell Mood, Soovi, jerd and Ash-B.  Hi-Lite Records posted a statement on its social media platforms following Paloalto's announcement saying in part...  "As many of you heard through Paloalto’s Instagram Live, we have decided to officially disband the Hi-Lite Records label. A number of different situations and circumstances led to this decision. Above all, know that this decision was made to ensure the best possible future for our artists and employees." KHip-Hop Tours/Concerts Happening Soon in 2022

Fans of South Korean hip-hop will soon have a chance to see their favorite artists on stage. More than two years after the coronavirus pandemic put live in-person performances on hold, now with declining cases globally, artists are once again preparing to go on tour.  That includes Khip-hop rapper, Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto, as well as AOMG artists YUGYEOM, Woo, Coogie, Sogumm, DeVita and DJ Wegun. In addition, Kpop mega stars BTS are also preparing for a mini- Las Vegas residency.  ( Part 2: Hip-hop and R&B Concerts/Tours Happening Soon in 2022 (summer, fall, winter) ) Rapper Paloalto kicks off the Khip-hop tour season. His U.S. tour begins March 10 in New York. Rappers oygli, PUFF DAEHEE, Ugly Duck & Paloalto Team Up for "Around Here" Project

Helping to spotlight one of the 25 districts in Seoul, South Korea, rappers oygli, PUFF DAEHEE (from 8BallTown), Ugly Duck (from AOMG) and Paloalto (founder of Hi-Lite Records) have teamed up for a new song- "Around Here." The BRLLNT produced track hit streaming sites, with an official visual on February 20, as part of a project to revitalize the Yongsan-gu region. The music video was filmed in the Itaewon area of the district. Check it out below.

Keebomb Drops New EP - "Good Morning"

With a smooth flow, rapper Keebomb returns with a new fire EP. The South Korean artist released - "Good Morning" on streaming sites on October 20. The six-track mini-album features rappers Paloalto and Don Mills. Check it out below.

Just weeks after celebrating the ten year anniversary of the record label he founded, rapper Paloalto announced on August 30, that he was resigning from his position of CEO at Hi-Lite Records. The Korean hip-hop artist says he will be staying on at the company to focus on his music.  On the same day as the announcement that he was stepping down, Paloalto also dropped a new single titled “Let the Story Begin,” produced by Yosi. JO WOO CHAN Returns With "ID schoolboy, Pt.3" and "Honey Dance" Visual

Teen rapper JO WOO CHAN is back with his first EP-- "ID schoolboy, Pt.3." Parts 1 and 2, were released as singles back in 2019. His new mini-album, part 3, dropped on May 16. The South Korean artist garnered many fans back in 2017, when he made it past the initial rounds of "Show Me The Money 6" as the youngest contestant in the rap competition show's history, at 13-years-old (Korean Age). Shortly after the season ended, the young rapper teamed up with two other teen stars, Park Hyunjin and Achillo, for the 'OG SCHOOL PROJECT,' -- "OGZ ," produced by GroovyRoom. BLNK drops A Funky Second Album - "FLAME" with a Visual for his Track "Love Is"

South Korean rapper BLNK has released his second album. The Legit Goons artist dropped his 13-track LP- "FLAME," on March 5th. The album features groovy, funky and jazzy beats under melodic vocals with references and vibes of old school hip-hop (reminiscent of OutKast at times). It gets an assist from established South Korean rappers - Nafla, Changmo, Chaboom, Nucksal, Yumdda, Simon Dominic and Paloalto. The release also includes a visual for the track "Love Is." Producer SOMDEF drops "MorningMare" Album & MV: Featuring rappers Kid Milli, JUSTHIS, Paloalto, GIRIBOY, ODEE, Sokodomo, CHANGMO, Tommy Strate, Dok2 & Double K

Another big project drop from South Korean producer DJ SOMDEF. The beat maker released his 9-track album - "MorningMare" with a visual on December 13th. It features some of South Korea's top rappers including Kid Milli, JUSTHIS, Paloalto, GIRIBOY, ODEE, Sokodomo, CHANGMO, Tommy Strate, Dok2 and Double K. KHip-Hop Legends: Deepflow, Paloalto, The Quiett, Yumdda and Simon Dominic collab in a Dingo x DAMOIM single & MV - "Forever 84"

A Dingo and DAMOIM collaboration with some of the top hip-hop heavy hitters in South Korea-- who mostly were born in 1984. Part one of the project - "Forever 84," hit streaming sites on November 19, with a Dingo music video on YouTube, featuring Yumdda, Deepflow, Paloalto, The Quiett and Simon Dominic. The rappers, now in their 30s-- have each helped to put South Korean hip-hop on the map. They represent labels AOMG, Hi-Lite Records, ILLIONAIRE RECORDS and VMC. And the artists are living life to the fullest in their DF Film visual, as they are "forever young, forever rich, forever 84." The track--was produced by Unsinkable. Check it out above and below. NEW MUSIC: Paloalto drops "Love, Money & Dreams, Part 3" featuring Ted Park & pH-1 for second track - "ijuswanna"

Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto is back with part three of  "Love, Money & Dreams." It dropped on July 26. Part one rolled out in May and part two hit streaming sites in June, featuring BewhY on the track "Promised Land." This time around, Paloalto has enlisted H1GHR MUSIC's Ted Park and pH-1, for the second track of the new double single. Their Holymoley! produced song titled "ijuswanna," includes melodic lyrics in English and Korean on a bouncy beat. The first song of the release, "Move On," was produced by Big Banana. NEW VIDEO DROP: Paloalto - "It Ain't Love"

A passionate performance for Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto in his new visual for his track "It Ain't Love." The South Korean rapper released the official music video on July 7th, complete with English subtitles. Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto has returned with part two of his "Love, Money & Dreams." The South Korean rapper released his new double single on June 22. Part one hit streaming sites back in May. The first track of the new release, "It Ain't Love," was produced by AOMG's Code Kunst. The second track, "Promised Land," was produced by Stally, and features 2016's  Show Me the Money 5 winner BewhY. 

New Music: JUNNY - "Vivid, Pt. 1" & "For The Weekend" MV (feat. Paloalto)

Korean-Canadian singer JUNNY from South Korea's collective Marilyn Monderland is back from Vancouver with the first half of his first full album titled "Vivid, Pt. 1."  Produced by Holymoley!, the project dropped on March 31 as an EP mix of alt-R&B and melodic trap. NEW MUSIC: South Korean rapper and label founder - Paloalto drops his "Yearend" EP

Quick flow, and tight beats, to wrap up 2018, and just in time for Christmas. South Korean Hi-Lite Records founder Paloalto dropped his "Yearend" project on Dec. 21. The EP includes features with rappers Qwala, YunB and Ugly Duck. Producers on the four track mini-album include Big Banana, Sway D, YunB and Unsinkable. Check out the Apple Music preview below.

NEW MUSIC: Phoenix and the Flower Girl - “Guillotine” ft. Phoenix Troy & Paloalto

From across the way, audio and visual duo Phoenix and the Flower Girl in London and Tokyo, have teamed up with South Korean hip-hop label, Hi-Lite Records founder, Paloalto, for a new track, “Guillotine.” The melodic single hit streaming sites on November 30. Phoenix and the Flower Girl consist of British rapper, vocalist and producer Phoenix Troy, and artistic director, Flower. Code Kunst - Drops New Music ("BLESS" featuring Loco & Woo Won Jae) ahead of the new season of 'Show Me The Money' where he'll be a Producer/Judge

South Korean producer CODE KUNST has teamed up with AOMG labelmates Loco and Woo Won Jae for a two track single release called "Bless." The new music dropped on August 16 on streaming sites and is his second release since signing on with the hip-hop/R&B label back on June 10. He arrived at AOMG after leaving YG Entertainment's sub-label HIGHGRND. The title track for "Bless" (under the same name) is laced with the producer's synth hip-hop beats and Woo Won Jae and Loco's signature rap flows. The two rappers both shot to fame before joining AOMG after taking top spots on the South Korean rap competition series Show Me The Money. Loco won the first season of the Mnet program in 2012 and also became one of the first artists to sign on to Jay Park's AOMG label (in 2012). He later returned to SMTM(4) in 2015 as a judge/producer with Park. Woo Won Jae participated in Show Me The Money 6 , where he finished in third place in mid 2017.  On Octo...
