Jay Park Celebrates National Liberation Day of Korea with new video for "DNA Remix"

After facing backlash for the original "DNA Remix" video, H1GHR MUSIC CEO Jay Park has uploaded a new video for the collaboration project. The new video, showing the culture, traditions and landmarks of South Korea through the eyes of a young boy, hit YouTube on August 15 to coincide with National Liberation Day of Korea.  The holiday, according to Wikipedia, is celebrated every year on August 15, in both South and North Korea, in commemoration of the victory over Japan, "when at the end of World War II, the U.S. and allied forces helped end 35 years of Japanese occupation and colonial rule of Korea, which lasted from 1910–1945." On social media, H1GHR MUSIC says the day "represents South Korea and its peoples’ perseverance, pride and courage." Singer G.Soul Discharged from the Military

(Photo Courtesy: H1GHR MUSIC Instagram) R&B singer G.Soul has been discharged from the Republic of Korea Army. He announced the news on Instagram on September 4th (KST). The H1GHR MUSIC soulful artist enlisted in December of 2017, for his mandatory military service.  On social media, he posted that the army has been one of the "most challenging yet rewarding experiences" of his life. The singer also says he can't wait to let fans hear the "new music" that he's working on. New Music & MV: Hitting up Loco and GRAY for a "Late Night"

It's three in the morning at AOMG in South Korea, and hip hop producer artist GRAY and rapper Loco, are ready to hit up some people for a "Late Night." The two labelmates dropped the official music video for their new track, "Late Night," on November 28. It's fun and colorful, and includes cameos from fellow labelmates Woo Won Jae, CODE KUNST, ELO and DJ Wegun. The release comes after the recent announcement that Loco will join the military in February, as a conscripted policeman. According to the Korea Herald ... Loco will enlist in the military on Feb. 7, 2019, according to AOMG. The rapper will receive basic military training at the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, for five weeks, and continue his service at a local police station. NEW MUSIC DROP: Syler - "More People More Problems"

by Nefertiti Jenkins In the lead single off his new album, South Korean rapper Syler pays homage to The Notorious B.I.G., the American rapper killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. The title of Syler's album, "More People More Problems," is a spin on Biggie's single "Mo Money Mo Problems, " featuring Mase and Puff Daddy (Sean Combs/P. Diddy).  Syler's 7-track project hit streaming sites on October 11, with known South Korean R&B and hip-hop artists featured on the album including JINBO the Superfreak, Alisha , Mutang, The $eoul kid, 24 Flakko, Mckdaddy, Owen Ovadoz and LT. Rapper San E takes a jab at South Korean Hip-Hop industry in new music video - "Wannabe Rapper"- inspired by Childish Gambino's - "This Is America"

 by Nefertiti Jenkins South Korean hip-hop artist San E, takes a swing at rappers in his country in his latest music visual-- "Wannabe Rapper." He even calls out the popular rap competition series Show Me The Money, in which San E has been a producer/judge in past seasons. The video hit YouTube on October 10. According to the artist, it was inspired by American rapper Childish Gambino's "This Is America" video, which addresses gun violence, racism and discrimination against African-Americans in the United States. San E uses the voices of children, as a metaphor on the state of hip-hop, to show that the genre is still in its youth in South Korea. In San E's track and MV, he calls out entertainers who become rappers for material gain and fame. He also focuses on social issues like suicide and female interaction/feminism. NEW MUSIC DROP: Don Mills - "Time" & "Nakwon Stores" (feat. Car, The garden)

South Korean hip-hop artist Don Mills is leaving behind two new emotional tracks and a documentary, ahead of his reported mandatory military enlistment (South Korean men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve). His new songs-- "Time" (produced by SCARY`P) and the Coke Jazz produced track "Nakwon Stores," featuring Car, The garden, were released on October 7. The documentary directed by Guns Lee, follows The VMC (Vismajor Company) artist around South Korea, from the streets, to the soccer field, the music studio and the stage. Most of the lyrics off the new tracks are in Korean, but you do catch a few words in English including; "Time goes fast, time goes fast" as part of the title track hook. A spiritual Hip-Hop journey to Africa with Korean rapper JaeDal - in New Music Drop: "Period" EP & "Tree" MV

JaeDal from Legit Goons, has released a visually powerful music video for his track "Tree," off his new EP "Period." The Previex music film, directed by Lee Hyoungjoo and Kim Jinbeom, opens with GPS coordinates to a country in Africa. The cinematic visual then shows a shaved JaeDal, followed by majestic images of the beauty of the land and its children. JaeDal's flow over African drums is in Korean. Translated in the comments section by a fan, the lyrics include... Even when I burn as a fire. Even when I flow as a boat. The grains in my heart remain. As I become a tree.

New Video Drop: from new KHip-Hop Artist - Kobel - "Don't Hit My Line" MV

A debut music video for a rising hip-hop star in Korea. Recording artist and producer (Johnny) Kobel, dropped his first mv on June 2nd. Called "Don't Hit My Line," Kobel writes on social media, that it was his first time acting in front of a camera during the shoot for it. The visual gives viewers a full view of the young singer /rapper as he delivers a message for a troubled love... Please don't hit my line, pretending that you're fine. I know that you been crying. I can see it in your eyes. During an Instagram Live recently, Kobel told fans that he was born in Belgium, studied in the U.S. for ten years, and lived in Chile for three years. South Korean Hip-Hop Artist Sik-K Nominated for BET Award

Known for his trap swag, rapper Sik-K from South Korea, is nominated for a 2018 BET Award. The category-- Viewers' Choice: Best New International Act. Fans can vote through June 19, on the BET website,  and also on Instagram with the hashtag #IPICKSIKK18. The BET Awards Show will be held on June 24, in Los Angeles, CA. The BET International Awards can be viewed in the UK, Ireland and Africa on June 26. Sik-K is with hip-hop label H1GHR MUSIC, and is one of the artists featured on the viral track, "EUNG FREESTYLE," which was tweeted out by model superstar Tyra Banks, in September of 2016. NEW MUSIC DROP: Jarv Dee "Foreign Xchange" feat. Sik-K

Back in March (of 2018), Seattle rapper Jarv Dee , shared video on Instagram from a club in South Korea, where he was rocking the mic to his hit song "Smoke 2 Much," (from The Red Eye Jedi album). Korean fans at the joint seemed to love it, as they got hyped to his hip-hop vibe. Jarv Dee (who is also a part of Seattle's music crew Moor Gang), was in South Korea, spending time with his H1GHR MUSIC label mates, and tagging several of them on Instagram, including trap artist Sik-K.  Since then, he's hit the stage at South by Southwest (in Austin, TX) and traveled across the U.S. on tour with H1GHR MUSIC .  And now that that's a wrap, he's dropping new music. NEW MUSIC DROP: Korean R&B singer Dean collaborates with London band PREP for "Cold Fire"

Some funk to get you through the rest of the week. The four member band PREP from London, has premiered the title track from their upcoming EP, "Cold Fire," featuring R&B Korean singer Dean, and it's a throwback to the sounds of the 70s and 80s. According to The Line of Best Fit, "rose-tinted disco rhythm" propel the track "which is held together by handclaps and unabashed riffing." In an Instagram post, PREP gives a shout-out to Dean on backing vocals, and producer Pomobeats for a "fire synth solo." Check out the single on SoundCloud below. The EP "Cold Fire" drops on May 4th, and the band will be heading out for a mini Asia tour starting May 20, in South Korea.

NEW MUSIC ON THE WAY: Tiger JK to Release Final Album as "Drunken Tiger"

  Korean hip-hop legend Tiger JK has announced that he will be dropping a new album, which will be his last, under the name "Drunken Tiger." Per media reports, Tiger JK announced on Friday, April 6, that new music for Drunken Tiger's last album will be out on April 13. According to The Korea Herald, Drunken Tiger is the name of Tiger JK's hip-hop duo with DJ Shine, which debuted in 1999, as pioneers for Korean Hip-Hop. DJ Shine left in 2005, but Tiger JK continued releasing new tracks under Drunken Tiger. The upcoming 10th album will be the first in nine years, under Drunken Tiger, since "Feel gHood Muzik : The 8th Wonder" in 2009. In 2013, Tiger JK teamed up with his wife Yoon Mi Rae and rapper Bizzy to form the group MFBTY, an acronym for "My Fans are Better Than Yours." Soon after, he founded a new label, Feel Ghood Music.

Concert Watch: Junoflo in New York

After two big performances, at South by Southwest (SXSW), in Austin, Texas, Khip-hop rapper Junoflo, is preparing to hit the stage once again for U.S. fans, this time, in New York. Junoflo announced on social media on March 22, that he will be live at NUBLU 151 on March 30. Presented by LPR, doors open at 7 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show.  To purchase tickets, click on the Eventbrite link here.   In addition to his recent SXSW appearances, (which included hitting the stage at the H1GHR MUSIC showcase), the Feel Ghood Music artist recently dropped a new EP titled "Only Human," which includes features with Jay Park, Yoonmirae, Tiger JK, Black Nine and Hash Swan.

RED VELVET - Fan-Meet In Chicago (UPDATE: Tickets Go On Sale, April 7)

Kpop girl group Red Velvet will be in the U.S. to spend time with fans later this spring. SubKulture Entertainment announced on March 21, that they were bringing the ladies to Chicago, for their first U.S. fan-meet. It will be held at the Rosemont Theatre on April 29. According to SubKulture, while the fan-meet will only be held in one city (because of their schedule), ReVeluvs (fans) in Los Angeles can catch Red Velvet at the Korea Times Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl on April 28. SONG OF THE DAY: G2 - "1999" (feat. GRAY)

G2 from hip hop label Hi-Lite Records in Korea has dropped a music video for his new single, "1999."  It features AOMG producer /artist GRAY,  and takes us back to G2's childhood in the United States, where he mentions being bullied, but emphasizes the strength of staying with family. The young artist with dreads has a story to tell. We hear a part of it in English and Korean in this new single. The music video was released ahead of his album drop "G2's Life, Pt. 1" on December 22, 2016 (KST).                                                                           

CONCERT WATCH: "Show Me The Money 5" U.S. Tour

Love hip hop? Check out the Show Me The Money tour hitting the U.S. this September, for some of the best performers in hip hop in concert. Show Me The Money is a Korean reality competition show in its 5th season, featuring popular recording artists from popular labels as judges and producers. Thousands of people tried out for the program earlier this year in Korea, but auditions were also held this season in Los Angeles. American producer Timbaland was a guest judge. According to promoter Powerhouse, SMTM5 winner BewhY and runner up CJAMM will be hitting  the stage for the U.S. tour on September 3 rd in Chicago and September 4 th in Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale through ticketmaster.com and axs.com. The line-up also includes the popular producers from Team YG, Zion.T and Kush, Team Gill and Mad Clown, Team Illionaire, Dok2 and The Quiett, and Team AOMG, Gray and Simon Dominic.
